Violet Yorke, Gilded Girl: Ghosts In the Closet by PJ McIlvaine Genre: Middle Grade Historical Paranormal Mystery

Violet Yorke, Gilded Girl: Ghosts In the Closet

by PJ McIlvaine

Genre: Middle Grade Historical Paranormal Mystery

She sees ghosts…but are they malevolent or friendly?

Poor little rich girl Violet Yorke has seen ghosts for as long as she can remember, but no one believes her.

Not stodgy Grandmother, who took charge of the heiress after her parents were killed in a failed robbery. Nor kind-hearted Aunt Nanette, or Uncle Bertie, a charming rogue. Not even the patient Hugo Hewitt, Violet’s godfather and trustee of her vast fortune.

Everyone dismissed the child’s insistence about ghosts as a harmless eccentricity—until the night her bedroom caught fire. Violet was promptly sent overseas, fueling her anger and resentment.

Two years later, a rebellious twelve-year-old Violet is on her way back to Manhattan on the doomed Titanic. As the ship sinks into the deep Atlantic Ocean, she’s put in a lifeboat by an apparition who rescued her from the clutches of a jewel thief. Presumed lost at sea, Violet shocks everyone by crashing her own funeral.

Following Violet’s recovery, Grandmother has grand high society designs for the girl, but Violet has other ideas. She’s determined to uncover the secret of what really happened to her parents. Then there’s the mystery of the moon-faced boy at gloomy Dunham Hall and his connection to the ghost on Titanic. Also hot on Violet’s trail is the jewel thief, the specter of her murdered governess, and a vengeful ghost lurking in Violet’s childhood home.

Being a poor little rich girl in 1912 Gotham isn’t all it’s cracked up to be in this delightfully dark and droll supernatural historical fantasy.

Den of Serpents

The Full Collection Box Set

by Quinn Blackbird

Genre: Dark Paranormal Academy Romance

Dark Paranormal Academy Romance. *Enemies-to-Lovers*
OCTOBER RELEASE 2022

We are the monsters in your stories.
Vampires, Knights, Fae and Shifters,
All so merciless and bloodthirsty.
But even monsters have things to fear in the dark.

Vampires are the elite of the Shadow Realm, and since I'm one of them, I should be sitting pretty in the world my parents designed for me... an arranged marriage to some other vamp to continue the bloodlines.
That's my purpose: Marry and have a child.

Simple, right?
It should be. Problem is, I'm a
stunted vampire. It's no secret, either.
Powers I
should possess escape me. No matter how hard I train at the Moon Academy, I can't muster a single ability.

It's my final year to break free from this mockery shadowing me, produce some sort of power that makes me worthy to my wicked society. My sole focus will be the manifestation of my dormant powers—

At least, that's what I had intended. But when my attention starts shifting to a Knight who is forbidden to me, and savage murders are rampaging through all of our hidden towns, schools, and cities, I'm starting to worry I might not make it to the end of the year at all...

Please be aware that the Blackbird worlds and characters are dark and don't hold their punches.

DEN OF SERPENTS is a *dark* paranormal romance. Here, you'll find vampires, hunters, fae, and shifters as brutal as lore intends.

Creatures of the Night

by C.A. King

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Zoe spent her whole life training how to fight demons—how to kill them. Not once did that curriculum include falling in love with one. Now, she’s faced with a hard choice: betray one to save the other.

Will she side with the family and friends who have always been at her side, or trade it all for the romance she so deeply desires?

Odds are, no matter which path she follows, her heart won’t make it out unscathed.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn't open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn't need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don't ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Fast forward to today...

PRAISE for THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN SPELLS

"With mystery, adventure, magic, puzzles, and four diverse protagonist, bestselling adult author Charlie Lovett jumps into the world of young readers and embarks on a new middle grade series with his patented skill, perspective, and historical knowledge. Using the protagonists' self-doubts and strengths, Lovett deftly crafts a magical message of empathy. His world-building is cinematic, and his writing is smart, clever and fun. THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN SPELLS will find a wide range of readers."

Kristen Gilligan | Owner, Tattered Cover Bookstores, Denver, CO

"THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN SPELLS is an action-packed story about powerful magical books and fabled histories, heartfelt friendships and the journey of a team of children to discover their truth and find themselves. THE BOOK OF THE SEVEN SPELLS is a treasury of moving character development, quirky dialogue and exciting plot twists that is sure to have all readers wishing for more. I really like the recipe of this book from start to finish!"

Drew Durham | Children's Specialist, Books, Inc., Burlingame, CA

"Full of adventure, this book captivated me from page one. I love the characters and rich storytelling that always makes Lovett's books exciting and engaging. In my experience as a bookseller and community organizer, I come into contact with many parents and teachers who are looking simply for "good stories" for their kids. This is the book I want to give them."

Jamie Rogers Southern | Operations Manager, Bookmarks, Winston-Salem, NC & SIBA Board Member

"Kids will root for its heroes and heroines—plucky, flawed, skillful, and brave—and will devour the way book knowledge and child-driven research makes plausible the unfolding of the mystery of Hedley Helm and Mortimer Mansion. Likewise, librarians will appreciate the clear writing, suspenseful plot, and the thoughtful portrayal of each character's insecurities, fears, and talents. It is excellent to see a middle grade fantasy novel feature such a diverse cast of characters! I liked that the characters confronted issues of race, gender, class, and more throughout the novel, showing how assumptions based on the way kids look or act can do harm to them (or become internalized over time). I loved how Charlie developed empathy in each protagonist; by the end of the novel, you didn't just see them come together as a regular school-crew: it made perfect, believable sense. In short, I really did love it!"

Aubrey Restifo | Middle Grade & YA Specialist, Northshire Bookstore, Manchester, NH

Charlie Lovett lives in a house full of old books and can often be found reading on his back porch with his dog Rosie curled up next to him. He loves to run, watch movies, and travel, but most of all he loves to tell stories. He wrote The Book of the Seven Spells for a group of young friends and he hopes you like it as much as they do.
