CHRISTMAS SEASON by Cindy J. Smith

CHRISTMAS SEASON

Homeless man shivers
In the cold and snow
He's not really sure
Which way he should go

As hunger pains stab
Wish for bite to eat
Maybe a dry place
With a little heat

Clothes wet and dirty
Shoes have lots of holes
Not sure he'll survive
Much more of this cold

Strangers pass him by
As if he's a ghost
Think  it could be them
Worries them the most

Young girl sits inside
Her lonely bedroom
Trying to see through
Depression's thick gloom

No zest for this life
No reason to be
Just thinking how she
Can set herself free

Takes hold of the gun
Puts it to her head
Maybe someone will care
Once she is found dead

Young couple are talking
Boss chose to cut costs
Pink piece of paper
Means income is lost

How to keep children
Believing in hope
When they have no clue
How they'll even cope

Christmas is coming
No gifts will be here
How do you explain?
Say, "Maybe next year?"

But you were ripped off!
Someone got more than you!
Perhaps you should try
Different point of view

It is not the receiving
That makes this time great
Remember to give
Before it's too late
