Every minute of every
day, your body is physically reacting, literally changing, in response to the
thoughts that run through your mind. It’s been proven over and over again that just
thinking about something causes your brain to release neurotransmitters -
chemical messengers that allow it to communicate with parts of itself and the
rest of your body through your nervous system. Neurotransmitters control
virtually all of your body’s functions, including hormone production,
digestion, heartrate, muscle function, glandular activity and particularly,
emotions.
Scientific
studies have shown that thoughts alone can improve vision, fitness, and
strength. The placebo effect, as observed with fake operations and sham
drugs, for example, works because of the power of thought. Positive
affirmations and expectancies have been shown to change brain chemistry
and circuitry which results in real physiological and cognitive outcomes, such
as less fatigue, better immune system reaction, normal sleep patterns, and
reduced anxiety and stress amongst other things.
A sizable body of
research exploring the nature of consciousness, carried on for more than thirty
years in prestigious scientific institutions around the world, shows that
thoughts are capable of affecting everything from the simplest organisms to the
most complex living beings. A thought is not only a thing; a thought is a
thing that influences other things. Thoughts and deep intentions are vibrations
which interact with and affect other vibrations which make up the material
particles and substance of our universe.
It’s been well
documented that directed thoughts can affect a person’s own body in numerous
ways. But thoughts have also been shown to alter some biological
processes in another person,
including gross motor movements, and those of the heart, eye, brain and
respiratory system. Researchers have demonstrated that deep
human intention can affect a variety of other living systems such as
bacteria, mice, cats and dogs and even the direction in which fish swim.
Such evidence is the
basis for some belief systems made popular by the non-physical Law of
Attraction (LOA). All too often, this concept has been exploited in books,
promising anyone that they can get rich and famous, find the person of their
dreams, or get skinny instantly and effortlessly just by thinking the right
thoughts. All you have to do is visualize it, and it will happen.
However, it’s not quite that simple or direct.
Let’s assume for a
minute that there is some truth to the concept. If you are constantly thinking
about how you don’t have enough money and all the bills are piling up, how
do you think these thoughts are going to influence your reality if they do even
a little bit? If you worry unrelentingly about getting cancer and
freak out at every little thing, what kind of energy are these thoughts
emitting and subjecting your body to? Conversely, if money is tight, but you
concentrate on your competence to find solutions, and focus on gratitude for
things that you do have in your life, how is this going to influence your
reality?
Worry has become seen
as normal, usual, and even an unavoidable part of life. In my own
experience, not worrying felt so foreign to me at first, I would actually
search for things to worry about. This is not to say that there are never
things in life that cause anxiety, but focusing on the solutions to problems is
for more affirmative than living in and dwelling on the problem itself.
It has now been proven
beyond doubt, that stress is the main cause of a number of physical illnesses,
such as allergic conditions e.g. asthma or ecxma, fibromyalgia, migraine, heart
problems, gastric ulcers and other intestinal complaints, nervous system complications
(neuropathy), panic attacks or full-blown epilepsy and even certain types of
cancer.
The lesson to be
learnt here is this: Understand how to control your mind and thoughts, in order
to improve your life and your physical health.
Are
we all slaves to a gross illusion? Who are we? What is the mind, what
is consciousness and what is reality? This book offers educated
answers and explanations to all these questions and more. This book
motivates the reader to reconsider everything they think they know
about themselves and the world today, examining the different models
of creation, evolution of humanity and the universe, the essence of
matter and of life itself, exploring all manner of scientific,
theological, psychological and philosophical and metaphysical
hypotheses and offering insights into ancient mystical wisdom and the
road to enlightenment. Can it be, that this complex, living,
breathing, sophisticated, opinionated, creative and conscious entity
that we call human, is made up merely from a few invisible atoms of
nothingness? We are not simply made from flesh and blood - we are
beings of an infinity of dimensions, too vast to contemplate, but our
brains and our senses are only able to perceive that which is rooted
in matter, for that is the substance from which we believe we are
made. What we call reality, is most definitely not what it appears to
be.
